At the same time the Criminal Justice Social Work service was trying to improve provision for women on Community Service and within the staff group was a woman who was an artist by occupation. Ideas started to form and after discussions with the Day Centre staff, it was agreed that a group of thirteen women offenders would paint a number of local scenes on boards which could then be hung in the hallway.
The project proved to be a great success. As well as giving the Day Centre a makeover, the project has had a positive impact on the participants who have maintained supportive links with the Community Service supervisor and each other since they completed their orders.
