Alcohol Summit - Changing the Culture

Cllr Peter McNamara, SWSCJA Convenor, and Justina Murray, Chief Officer, were invited to present to an Alcohol Summit, ‘Changing the Culture’, called by Strathclyde Police Chief Constable Stephen House on 25 January 2012.

‘Our journey to the Summit’ was a personal reflection on SWSCJA’s work on alcohol and offending over the past year and a half.

Around 250 people attended the Summit, with delegates each asked to complete a pledge card on how they would make a positive impact on Scotland’s relationship with alcohol. Presentations were also delivered by Alcohol Focus Scotland, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, East Dunbartonshire ADP, Medics Against Violence and the Violence Reduction Unit.

The day started with an excellent Children’s Parliament film on the creation of an audio visual mural representing what children say they need to be safe, healthy and happy (http://www.childrensparliament.org.uk/projects/violence-reduction/).
