South West Scotland CJA has a clear purpose – to contribute to building a safer and stronger Scotland by working to reduce reconviction rates by 2 percentage points by 2011. We use a wide range of information to help us understand our local area and to write our plans. We also want to measure how well we are doing. South West Scotland in contextIn 2007 we seconded a police officer to work with South West Scotland CJA. He researched detailed information about local demographics, crime levels, reconvictions, court disposals and custody. The Profile of Offending and Re-offending in South West Scotland 2007 helped us to write our Area Plan 2008-11.We are updating the Profile of Offending and will publish it here on our website. You will be able to access a range of up to date information which gives the context for our work in South West Scotland with details of where you can find more information. South West Scotland CJA PerformsThis section of our website is designed to give you the latest information on how South West Scotland CJA is performing. The information is based on the best, most-up-to-date evidence and wherever possible makes a comparison with the rest of Scotland.The National Strategy for the Management of Offenders sets out 23 Outcomes. A National Performance Framework has been set up which focuses on 14 of the National Outcomes with 38 National Indicators identified to track progress. At a local level our Area Plan 2008-11 sets out 20 Longer Term Target Outcomes which focus on issues of particular importance to South West Scotland. Local Indicators are being developed. Together the National and Local Performance Frameworks allow us to track our progress and show that the work which we are all involved in is making a real difference to offenders, their families and their victims.
