Work with families
South West Scotland CJA knows that family support can be an important factor in reducing reoffending. We also know that when an offender is sent to prison that affects their family too. Families need recognition and support for their own needs in the community and for their role in supporting a relative in prison.
In August 2007 South West Scotland CJA worked with Families Outside and Kilmarnock Prison to deliver our “Focus on Families” conference. Over 100 people attended and the information and feedback from this event has contributed to our draft strategy for the engagement of offenders’ families.
The strategy includes a series of shared targets or standards which will help families to support offenders at each stage of the criminal justice system.
